Project Descriptions

North York Modern Retreat
- As is often the case the client approached us to open up the backyard to more usable areas including an outdoor living room and a hot tub.

- The existing deck was too small. The client wanted us to increase the size by 4 feet. We opened the deck up by creating a large staircase leading to the new faux flagstone patio below.

- They wanted us to design a hot tub nook that was accessible directly from the upper deck off their main indoor living areas. This extension to the new deck is both elegant and private with lattice screens giving it enclosure.

- There was the need to generally beautify their backyard with plantings creating a lush backdrop. The client wanted a more minimalist look and did not want plantings up against the deck. We did however add metal planters with Emerald Cedars near the deck to enhance this view.

Beach Parking Pad
- Having convenient parking on your property in the City of Toronto is a privilege that many Torontonians are without. We were hired to design and make an application for legal front yard parking and if granted permission, to install it.

- One of the requirements for getting approval is using a permeable paver for the parking pad. We used Unilock Town Hall pavers which gave the design a rich old world appearance while meeting the City’s rule.

- To bring a bit of modern to this project we introduced Eramosa polished flagstones for the walkway and the copings on the small planter walls. The intricate veining of this stone adds interest and is a conversation piece.

- The existing mature Japanese Maple’s red tones were repeated with the burgundy of the Coral Bells on the opposite side of the property. They also provide dramatic contrast with the lime green foliage of the Golden Variegated Hakonechloa. Repeated Bergenia and perennial Geranium’s add a cohesive and colourful complement.

- It is rare that a front yard parking design adds both function and a much better curb appeal to a property. One would have thought that adding all this paving would have turned the streetscape into a inner city parking lot but instead our design has given this front yard a WOW factor!

Bloor West Village Eclectic Modern
In this modern eclectic design, our clients were particular about minimizing the outdoor living room patio space and maximizing the plantings. They were equally specific about creating deep contrast between the black stained fencing and the cedar tones of the deck. It resulted in a dramatic effect, pleasing to the eye.

We are proud to have been given a design award by Landscape Ontario for this project.

Riverdale Front Yard Makeover
- This home north of the Danforth in Toronto was a typical minimally landscaped front yard with a walkway that led straight into the porch steps.

- The new design creates a more meandering entryway with the entrance on the opposite side. The other portion of the walkway is hidden by a low horizontal board screen creating a sense of mystery.

- The screens on the property lines create a sense of enclosure and privacy, also adding architectural interest.

- New wrap-around porch steps create a more relaxed approach to the porch while the glass railings give an updated look to the property.

- Ornamental grasses including Maidengrass and Sioux Blue modernize the look, while the Everlasting Revolution Hydrangea and Bloody Cranesbill add colour.

- Thirty-one lights give this front yard a spectacular look in the evenings.
